On This Day - May 9th

On This Day...

1734 - Birth: Jane Darke, Pennsylvania
1832 - Birth: Hector Olmstead, Havana, Tompkins County, New York
1832 - Birth: Harmon Camp Olmstead, Havana, Tompkins County, New York
1876 - Birth: Rosina Welter, Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa
1929 - Birth: Waldemar Otto Karnitz, Scott County, Minnesota
1982 - Death: Bertie Lang McMurry, Winn Parish, Louisiana

Another very short list, with the notable birth of twin boys to the Olmsteads in New York in 1832.  This makes me wonder about survivability of multiple births back then.  Even single births often resulted in stillbirths, or infants who died soon after birth.  Twins, and even more so triplets and up reduce the chances of healthy babies.  How many of the twins that I've been pointing out lived to adulthood?
