Tombstone Tuesday - Michael & Cynthia Dillman

Michael & Cynthia (Batman) Dillman are my anchor points in the Dillman line.  Michael was the first born into the line in the United States, born 28 Dec. 1810 in Ohio.  Census records show that he lived for many decades in Crawford County, Indiana.  On 8 Oct 1831 he married Cynthia Batman, and they produced a family of nine children.  Their son Peter Dillman is my link, and I will  feature him in a future Tombstone Tuesday.  Michael died 13 Jun 1879, not too long after Cynthia's death 16 Jan 1878, both in Crawford County.  They are buried together in Dillman Cemetery located just outside the don't blink or you miss it village of Curby, near Marengo in Crawford County.

Update: As I did my next Tombstone Tuesday for Michael & Cynthia's son Peter Dillman, it occurred to me that I really failed to add much detail about Michael & Cynthia in this post.  In the philosophy of Better Late Than Never, I now add some extra information:

Michael appears on the 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census in Crawford County, Indiana.  He was employed as a Land Agent and farmer, and at some point served as a Justice of the Peace.  From 1862-1870 he was employed as a Surveyor in Crawford County.

Michael lived most of his life in Jennings Township in Crawford County.  The map below has much of Jennings Township, including the little town of Curby in the lower right.  South of Curby is a marking for Dillman Church; Dillman Cemetery where Michael & Cynthia are buried is right across the road from this church.  Many other Dillman and Landiss/Landers graves are there as well.  Michael owned several parcels of land, shown approximately in yellow on this map (map courtesy of USGS, indicated areas taken from Land Patent documents):
